Secrets of Friendships

This fun and engaging curriculum gives your elementary to middle school aged child the key "secrets" to making and maintaining a friendship. The curriculum explicitly teaches what a friend is, and how to differentiate a “friend” from other relationships (e.g., classmate, acquaintance, trusted adult, stranger). After determining who is a friend, students participate in engaging learning opportunities to explore how to make and maintain that friendship over time. The curriculum focuses on both explicit (e.g., how to initiate a conversation) and non-explicit (e.g., nonverbal cues that show you are interested and care, cognitive flexibility, others have different thoughts and feelings than me) social skills that are required to make and maintain positive relationships.

Student Profile: Students who are able to access learning through a verbal based instructional format. Language skills and cognition should be within the average range. Generally students are able to be in grade level curriculum at school, although they may have some disparities.
